Pacific Heights Chevron is a BAR certified STAR Test & Repair (CAP) station. This means we are authorized by BAR (California Bureau of Automotive Repairs) to perform regular smog inspections, test-only smog checks, and smog check repairs.
STAR stations are monitored more closely by BAR and have to conform to a higher level of standards.
If you received a notification on your vehicle registration renewal notice that says “SMOG Certification Required at a STAR station”, we can perform this certification.
Why Was My Vehicle Selected For a STAR Smog Check?
There are 3 criteria that the State of California uses when determining if a vehicle’s smog certification needs to happen at a STAR station.
- The vehicle is known as a gross polluter. It has failed a smog inspection in the past for having a high emissions rating.
- The vehicle has a high emitter profile. Certain vehicles are known to have higher than normal emissions output that is beyond the acceptable levels. These vehicles are often selected to be tested at a STAR station.
- Random selection. Vehicles that are registered in California are randomly selected for testing at a STAR station.
